Language Arts

The language arts portion of the student day is structured to embed and strengthen a love of reading in each and every student.  Literature selections are available in multiple areas of the classroom and learning centers.  Students are given the opportunity to learn concepts and life lessons from the reading of various works of literature.  They are exposed daily to texts from wide range of genre:  fiction, nonfiction, fables, poems, etc.  The students are taught by the use of interactive write alouds as well as interactive read alouds.  Students are given a chance to study authors' selections from authors such as Eric Carle, Leo Lionni, Laura Numeroff, and Dr. Seuss to name a few.  During language arts, students are exposed to letters/sounds using the Fundations materials.  Students are taught simple concepts of print as well as being exposed to phonemic awareness activities.
