Students are taught two specific science units while in the K4 classroom. These are presented in a hands-on, student oriented, inquiry-based learning environment.
The first science theme is about trees. The unit spans throughout the school year with a focus on the changes in a tree during the seasons. The lessons focus on a tree being a living thing and having four parts: roots, trunk, branches, and leaves.
The second science theme is about push, pull, and go. This works with K-nex and allows the students to work with hands-on activities to explore the ideas of force, push, pull, go. The students make a ramp, swing, top, and use force to work with dominoes to show how a system works. The students then record their findings in their science journals.
Additional science lessons are taught throughout the school year. The lessons explore the ideas of conducting an experiment, making an observation, making a prediction, and talking about the results.
